Open petition: Launch a review into strengthening regulation of diet replacement programmes
Created by Rachel curtis
Closes on
We call on the Government to launch a review into strengthening the regulation of very low energy and total-diet-replacement programmes.
We want the review to look into introducing standards that require clinical screening, professional oversight, statutory medical and eating disorder safeguards, maximum durations and structured food reintroduction that align with NICE guidance.
Very low energy diets can have a legitimate clinical role for some people when appropriately selected, monitored and supervised. We believe people undertaking this level of dietary restriction should receive appropriate clinical protection, regardless of whether a programme is delivered by a commercial provider or within the NHS.
