Open petition: Review legal safeguards for people and businesses affected by debanking

Created by Carmen Kennison-Brooks
Closes on

We want the Government to review legal safeguards for people and businesses affected by debanking, including whether there is fair review, transparency where lawful, and meaningful routes of challenge.

Debanking can leave individuals and lawful businesses unable to access money, pay staff or suppliers, meet essential costs, or continue trading. Financial institutions must be able to prevent fraud, money laundering and sanctions breaches, but restrictions should be proportionate, regularly reviewed and subject to meaningful challenge. We want clearer safeguards, greater accountability and a fair route to resolve cases where access to banking or funds is restricted or removed.
