Open petition: Review current laws on rabbit control
Created by Maxwell Levy
Closes on
Review laws that impose obligations on occupiers of land to control wild rabbits in rabbit clearance areas. Rabbit numbers have fallen dramatically, yet rabbits support predators, plants, invertebrates and help maintain diverse habitats. Require evidence of significant damage before lethal control
The European rabbit is near threatened globally and UK rabbit numbers have declined by around 72–73%. Yet rabbits support predators and biodiversity through grazing and burrowing. Lethal control should require demonstrable significant damage, with non-lethal alternatives prioritised.
