Rejected petition: SAVE OUR CHURCHES UK - National Campaign to Protect Christian Places of Worship
Rejected on
We want the UK Government to introduce legislation to protect designated, historic and significant church buildings when their current denomination can no longer sustain their use. A statutory requirement that they be offered first to eligible Christian denominations for continued Christian use.
We want meaningful public consultation before a protected church building is permanently removed from Christian use. We ask Parliament to recognise that churches that have served communities as places of Christian worship for generations have religious, historical, cultural, and community significance beyond their commercial property value.
When one Christian congregation can no longer sustain a church, the building should not automatically be lost to Christianity.
