Open petition: Mandate emergency hydrocortisone IM injection training in schools

Created by hayley reed
Closes on

Mandate emergency hydrocortisone IM injection training in schools for pupils with Congenital Adrenal Hyperplasia (CAH). Parents can't leave hospital without this training, yet schools can opt out of it. Change DfE guidance to mandate similar training to that for the use of EpiPens.

Parents can't leave hospital with CAH newborns until trained in life-saving hydrocortisone injections. Yet, DfE guidance leaves school training purely voluntary. This loophole lets schools refuse training, which can lock children out of education. If a child has a crisis at school, delay risks brain damage or death; and ambulance services explicitly warn against people always relying on their early arrival times. Change the guidance to mandate emergency injection training for staff, just like EpiPens.
