Rejected petition: Doctors rejecting our medications for chronically ill people
Rejected on
Sick & disabled: GPs must NOT reject prescriptions without notice/explanation — especially when low/out of pain meds. This affects our life greatly. We need to be heard.
We are sick, disabled people facing a cruel, dangerous reality: GPs routinely reject our repeat prescriptions without warning, explanation, or discussion. We request these meds because we are running low—or already out—of essential pain relief and life-sustaining treatment. Sudden, unannounced rejection causes unnecessary suffering, withdrawal, worsening health, and crisis. We demand mandatory prior notice, clear written reasons, before any prescription is refused. This is for our community.
Why was this petition rejected?
It’s about something that the UK Government or Parliament is not directly responsible for.
GPs are responsible for decision about prescribing medicines, not the UK Government or Parliament.
We could accept a petition calling for the Government to conduct a review of NICE guidance for withdrawing people from pain medications, if that's something that you'd like to see. You can view NICE guidance for medicines associated with dependence or withdrawal symptoms: safe prescribing and withdrawal management for adults here: https://www.nice.org.uk/guidance/ng215
We only reject petitions that don’t meet the petition standards.
