Open petition: Review the regulation of new-build warranty providers

Created by Mandy Good
Closes on

Review current regulations to make new-build warranty providers strictly liable for structural defects. We are concerned about flawed local authority sign-offs being used to reject claims or deflect liability to developers when independent structural evidence is provided.

Mortgage lenders often require new-build warranties to release funds. Yet when surveyors expose severe structural defects, warranty providers can refuse to act. We believe there are loopholes which can be exploited, using flawed council sign-offs to deny liability, bouncing buyers back to developers who endlessly delay repairs. A review must look at how to ensure warranty providers are legally compelled to honour claims and introduce strict financial penalties.
