Open Legally require those using the title "Engineer" to have an engineering degree

The title Engineer is protected in many other countries. Unfortunately, in the UK it is not so technicians, plumbers etc, use and abuse the title freely. Legislate that you must hold an engineering degree to use the title "Engineer".

We believe mis-use of the title "Engineer" is impacting the respect and value of professional Engineers, meaning less study the discipline. Engineers have formed the backbone of economies for centuries around the world. We feel that in the UK this has been eradicated, with the title of an engineer mis-used for plumbers, electricians and technicians. In our view, this is an insult to the profession which demands one of the hardest degrees, further study and training to earn the title.
