Open petition: Introduce Stamp Duty relief for domestic abuse survivors forced to relocate
Created by Shelbie Wells
Closes on
Require the Government to introduce Stamp Duty Land Tax relief for people who are forced to leave their main home because of domestic abuse and purchase a replacement home for their safety.
Domestic abuse can force survivors to leave their homes suddenly, often with significant financial costs. Stamp Duty can further reduce the money available to secure safe, suitable housing and rebuild their lives. The law should recognise that relocating because of abuse is not an ordinary choice to move home, but a necessary step towards safety and stability. Survivors should not be financially penalised for escaping abuse. This relief would help families secure safety, stability and new start.
