Open petition: Conduct a review into school hours to support guidance for later start & finish
Created by Rachel Stockley
Closes on
We call on the Government to conduct a review into school hours and to help introduce guidance encouraging schools to start at 9:30am and finish at 3:50pm or later, while maintaining the required amount of teaching time.
We want the Government to look to encourage schools in England to move to a later school day, starting at 9:30am and finishing at 3:50pm or later, while maintaining teaching time.
Later starts could give children more sleep, reduce stressful mornings and better fit modern working patterns, including shifts and commuting. We also want the Government review to assess the impact on children’s wellbeing, attendance and traffic congestion. This aim would be to move the school day later, not reduce education.
