Open petition: Call for UN action to protect all children from hazardous sea crossings

Created by darren wheeler
Closes on

Propose a UN initiative under the Convention on the Rights of the Child to require member states to prevent minors, regardless of origin, from being placed on unseaworthy vessels and subjected to life-threatening sea crossings, treating maritime child endangerment as a global safeguarding crisis.

Every child has a fundamental right to safety, regardless of nationality or background. Placing children onto unseaworthy vessels across hazardous shipping lanes puts them in extreme danger, even when departing safe nations.
Under the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, states must safeguard children's right to life. The UK Government should lead at the UN to ensure member states actively intervene to prevent maritime child endangerment at launch points.
