Open petition: Exempt childminders with domestic premises from the new EYFS sleep rules

Created by Sarah Nunn
Closes on

We urge the Government to exempt domestic childminding settings from the new EYFS sleep rules. We believe childminders should be allowed to use their own professional judgement on a safe place for children to sleep. We are home-from-home settings and often work alone in one room with limited space.

We believe a one size fits all approach ignores children’s individual sleep needs and can result in children being unable to sleep because they won’t settle – which is neither practical nor in children’s best interests. We believe childminders must be trusted to use professional judgement and provide a safe, suitable place for each child to sleep, including a pram, pushchair or sofa where appropriate.
