Open petition: Require a £22 per hour minimum wage and overtime play for HGV drivers
Created by Ovidiu Giosu
Closes on
Introduce a specific minimum £22/hour wage for UK HGV drivers and mandate overtime pay. Driving heavy vehicles carries high legal risks, long hours, and severe exhaustion. We believe pay must match HGV driver daily responsibilities to reflect hazards and liability. Overtime must be legally paid.
HGV driving demands professional qualifications, medical fitness, and strict adherence to regulations. Drivers face extreme fatigue, high accident risks, and strict personal legal liability on UK roads. Despite this, we feel wages have stagnated, overtime pay has been removed, and many drivers may earn less than unskilled, low-risk jobs. We are concerned that this drives experienced logistics staff out of the sector. The UK Government must legislate to protect HGV drivers' earnings.
