Rejected petition: Hold a national referendum on the legalisation of assisted dying in the UK
Rejected on
Introduce legislation to hold a UK-wide, legally binding public referendum on whether to legalise assisted dying for terminally ill, mentally competent adults - this should be a public decision not parliament.
A public referendum would provide a clear, democratic mandate on this issue, ensuring that every citizen has a voice in shaping the laws governing the end of life. The government has previously stated it has no plans for a referendum, arguing it is a matter for Parliament. However, given the deep public interest, we urge the Government to give the public the final say.
