Currently, the UK Government eventually plans to re-privatise British Steel, returning it from the public sector to the private sector.
I think this is not the right approach.
I want the UK Government to commit to keeping British Steel under permanent public ownership.
The previous owners of British Steel have consistently threatened to cut jobs, using electric arc furnaces as an excuse for this.
In the long term, public investment can protect the jobs of steelworkers whilst expanding production significantly.
I think the private sector has historically mismanaged our steel industry quite significantly, and that to improve our manufacturing base, public ownership is the only way forward.

British Steel is already under public control and the UK Government has not stated that they have any plans to privatise it.
