Open petition: Require travel companies ensure hotels meet minimum animal welfare standards
Created by Emily Hillier
Closes on
We want the Government to require UK travel companies and package holiday providers to ensure overseas hotels they work with have minimum welfare procedures for stray animals on their premises, including access to veterinary care, clean water and humane population management.
Stray animals are common at many overseas holiday resorts, yet sick or injured animals can be left without care. Some companies already operate an optional Stray & Working Animal Welfare Award that supports measures including veterinary care, neutering, access to food and clean water. We believe this shows such standards are achievable. We believe basic welfare procedures should not be optional and travel companies should ensure contracted hotels have appropriate measures in place.
