Open petition: Make 12 July 2027 a one-off Bank Holiday for 1100th anniversary England's birth

Created by Derek Hilling
Closes on

By making Monday 12th July 2027 a bank holiday in England, to commemorate the 1100th anniversary of the birth of England, Parliament will help most people in England celebrate the occasion. The Government should financially support those charities who are organising celebrations for the occasion.

Most English historians recognise the meeting arranged by King Æthelstan on 12th July 927 at ‘Eamotum’ in Cumbria represents the original unification of the English people, rightly described as the Birth of England. After this date King Æthelstan styled himself as Rex Anglorum - King of the English. For the first time all the people of England lived under one ruler and one law code. The 12th July is to England as 4th July is to America. England's creation in 927 should be officially recognised.
