Open petition: Fund free NHS laser hair removal/electrolysis for diagnosed hirsutism in PCOS
Created by Sabrina Nascimbeni
Closes on
Fund free NHS access to clinical laser hair removal and electrolysis for women diagnosed with hirsutism linked to Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS), to remove the need for patients to self-fund what we feel is essential medical care.
Hirsutism is a core clinical symptom of PCOS, caused by elevated androgens that produce thick, male-pattern hair growth on the face, neck, and body. Despite the proven medical cause, NHS routinely categorise hair removal as a 'cosmetic' procedure.
We believe there is an unfair financial barrier to accessing laser hair removal and electrolysis, meaning thousands of women have to spend thousands of pounds on private clinics or endure severe psychological distress, anxiety, depression, and skin damage from daily shaving and plucking.
