Open petition: Publish a new Autism Strategy under the Autism Act & help improve autistic lives
Created by Chelsea Webster
Closes on
Urgently publish an updated Autism Strategy for England. The previous strategy expired in July 2026, leaving the Government open to claims that it is in breach of the Autism Act 2009. The new strategy must be created in collaboration with diverse autistic voices to fix failing autism services.
The Autism Act 2009 required the Government to publish a national strategy to improve support and outcomes for autistic people. However, the last strategy expired in July 2026 without a replacement, leaving a gap in the provision of a strategy envisioned under the law.
As per the House of Lords "Time to deliver" report, Autistic people continue to face severe inequalities across public services and healthcare. Without an up-to-date strategy, support systems will continue to fail and autistic lives remain at risk. Action is needed now to uphold the rights of Autistic people in line with the Autism Act 2009.
