Open petition: Fund statutory grants for all suicide-prevention third sector organisations
Created by Shanu Patil
Closes on
Fund permanent statutory grants that are directly paid to third sector suicide prevention and crisis organisations, so that their core operating costs are fully paid for.
We believe national suicide prevention funding is unsustainable, as many vital, non-profit organisations rely on unstable public donations to survive. When they fail, the impact can be devastating. We have already seen this with Papyrus entering administration, forcing its Hopeline247 service to close.
The closure of vital charities and third sector organisations that aim to prevent suicides have diverted vulnerable people back to an overstretched NHS. We believe the Government should provide secure, ring-fenced funding for frontline suicide prevention charities and third-sector organisations.
