Open Reinstate opt-in consent for trade union political fund contributions

Amend Section 62 of the Employment Rights Act 2025 to restore explicit opt-in consent before any subscription is allocated to a union political fund.

Since 18 Feb 2026, new members pay automatically unless they opt out. This reverses the Trade Union Act 2016 principle that consent must be actively given. Political funds support party politics — we believe your money should only go there if you choose it.

Refunds should be available to those who opted out promptly but from whom funds were deducted without consent.
