Rejected petition: Require Carbon Capture on 50% of Power Station Emissions
Rejected on
Require carbon capture on at least 50% of eligible UK power-plant emissions. This would reduce CO₂ from fossil-fuel generation while the UK expands renewable and nuclear energy, helping cut emissions and protect the environment.
Power stations that burn fossil fuels release carbon dioxide (CO₂), a major greenhouse gas that contributes to climate change. Carbon capture technology can remove CO₂ from power-plant exhaust before it enters the atmosphere. This petition calls on the UK Government to require carbon capture on at least 50% of eligible power-plant emissions, while continuing to expand renewable and nuclear energy.

New and substantially refurbished combustion power plants in England applying for permits must demonstrate decarbonisation readiness with a 90% minimum capture rate.
