Rejected petition: Link Pupil Premium funding to a realistic family income.
Rejected on
Raise the household income threshold for Pupil Premium school funding. The new system creates an unfair two-tier divide that strips vulnerable children of vital support if their parents work part-time hours. The threshold must be linked to a realistic family income to support working households.
Charity starts at home. The Government must prioritise funding for our own communities. The new current system penalises low-income and disabled households, creating an unfair two-tier scheme. Stripping a child's Pupil Premium because a threshold is set too low is unrealistic and cruel. It starves our local schools of vital funding needed for classrooms. Before funding external projects, the Government must invest in our schools and the families living here trying to survive poverty. Act Now.
Why was this petition rejected?
It’s not clear what the petition is asking the UK Government or Parliament to do.
We're not exactly sure what threshold you'd like to see. From September 2026, the earned income threshold was removed, meaning any children in households receiving any level of universal credit award will qualify for pupil premium funding and free school meals.
