Open petition: Require a standard disclaimer on all official legal documents and interfaces
Created by David Giaramita
Closes on
Require all legal instruments, court communications, and official legal interfaces to include a prominent disclaimer stating that the text is written in legal terminology ("legalese"), where words hold precise, technical meanings distinct from everyday language.
Legal language often uses ordinary English words in ways that carry specific legal definitions, creating confusion for the public. Without formal training, members of the public may interpret terms according to common usage, leading to misunderstandings during legal processes.
Requiring a standardised disclaimer on legal communications and digital interfaces would explicitly notify individuals that the document operates under specialised legal language. This simple measure would improve clarity
