Open petition: Require AI agents to identify themselves when making unsolicited contact
Created by Mike Wood
Closes on
Introduce legislation requiring any AI agent that initiates unsolicited contact with a person to clearly disclose that it is an AI at the beginning of the interaction.
This should apply to AI agents contacting people by phone, voice call, text message or other conversational messaging services.
AI systems can increasingly hold natural conversations, use realistic human voices and present themselves using human names.
When an organisation chooses to use AI to initiate contact with someone who has not asked to be contacted, we believe the recipient has a basic right to know immediately that the interaction is with AI.
Disclosure should not depend on the person asking. If AI initiates the conversation, AI should identify itself.
