Open petition: Introduce a 50% levy on new fossil fuel revenue for health & social care fund

Created by Andrew Baines
Closes on

Introduce a levy on revenue from future fossil fuel exports to establish a UK social care investment fund (UKSCIF), modelled on the principles of sovereign wealth funds, which directly provides stable, long term funding support for health and social care across the UK.

The levy should ensure that half of all future UK oil and gas revenues are put into a protected investment fund that will then grow over time. The revenue from the fund, not the savings, should go towards funding high-quality, affordable social and health care for everyone who needs it.

This could mean better care for older people and those with disabilities and better funded health care for all, a system that’s fair, sustainable, and in place for future generations, and which ensures investment in the people of our country, rather than just spending whilst in the moment.
