Rejected petition: Reform The Youth Parliament System and Make It More Available to the Youth.

Rejected on

I think that the UK government need to reform the Youth Parliament system to make it more realistic and beneficial to not only the people of these constituencies, but also to people who aspire to become genuine MP's in the future. This would help the youth get a feel for politics, and benefit them.

Here are the reforms I would suggest.
1. Allow Youth MP's to sit in Parliament and Debate once a month.
2. Create a voting system for these Youth MP's- Similar to local MP elections, but right afterward.
3. Hold elections for the Youth MP's after the MP Elections. Make them realistic to the genuine elections. Adults and the Youth can vote for the youth MP's.
4. Teach people in school how to run for an election, write a manifesto, and also how to vote. Also, hold model elections in schools.

Why was this petition rejected?

It’s about something that the UK Government or Parliament is not directly responsible for.

The UK Youth Parliament is run by the National Youth Agency, not the UK Government or Parliament. You can find out more here: https://nya.org.uk/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/UKYP-MYP-Roles-Responsibilities-and-Delivery-Structure-Guide-2026-2027.pdf

You could start a new petition calling for the Government and Parliament to set up a new Youth Parliamentary System, directly run and linked to the UK Government and Parliament, if that's something that you'd like to see.

We only reject petitions that don’t meet the petition standards.
