Rejected petition: Mandatory DBS registrations for members of Religious places of Worship

Rejected on

The government should make it Mandatory for members of religious places of worship to be registered on the DBS system.

This petition is to make places of worship a safe environment where people can practice their religion safely and freely amongst themselves and others. Places of worship also should be held accountable by law from crimes or if they have any previous criminal convictions that can put vulnerable members at risk.

Members of places of worship and those who volunteer should also be subject to mandatory DBS registration and checks.

Why was this petition rejected?

It’s not clear what the petition is asking the UK Government or Parliament to do.

We find this petition unclear - we are not sure what is meant by "members of Religious places of Worship": depending on what you intend this phrase to mean, it is also potentially discriminatory as religious belief is a protected characteristic under the Equality Act.

We only reject petitions that don’t meet the petition standards.
