Open petition: Increase the state pension and link it to the UK national salary
Created by Michael Thompson
Closes on
Government must allow todays pensioners, and the rest of us on reaching the official retirement age, to share in the nation’s wealth, because our taxes help to build our economy, and our country.
In 1980 the increase in state pension's link with average earnings was severed and linked to inflation only. We believe the state pension has been allowed to whither on the vine to date. The state pension is now worth around just 27 per cent UK average earnings.
We believe our pensioners have been marginalised and discriminated against by a low state pension, and means tested handouts. This needs to change and the state pension should be equal to the UK average salary.
