Open Require safer taller fencing & secure child-proof gates at children’s play areas

Introduce minimum safety standards for enclosed public children’s play parks, including taller secure perimeter fencing and child-resistant gates that young children cannot simply push open, with particular consideration given to autistic children and other children who are at risk of elopement.

Many autistic children are at serious risk because they elope or run without understanding danger. Most playground gates can be pushed open easily, and many parks are beside roads or other hazards. This excludes autistic children from places they should be able to enjoy. Taller secure fencing and childproof, self-closing gates would make public play parks safer and more inclusive.
