Rejected petition: Introduce voting education seminars in all constituencies for general elections.
Rejected on
Enforce a mandatory seminar in which all candidates in a constituency must inform the voters (that voluntarily attend) of their intentions and the intentions of their party, along with an unbiased booklet of information on the political situation of the constituency and Parliament as a whole.
Several seminars may occur in constituencies with high voter count, and can also be attended remotely. The purpose of the seminars is to inform the voters on the viewpoints of the candidates and their parties, along with allowing the candidates to be more involved with their community, causing appeal for local areas. Additionally, the candidates’ speeches, along with public information booklets, serve as a way to increase education on British politics so voters can be more informed and engaged.
Why was this petition rejected?
It’s not clear what the petition is asking the UK Government or Parliament to do.
We find your petition to be unclear. While the frequency and number of hustings in each constituency may have dropped in recent decades, they still happen. Would your request impose a sanction for not showing up? What would that sanction be?
Who would produce the booklet you refer to - each candidate? Who would check for bias? What is meant by "the political situation for the constituency and Parliament as a whole"? Its political composition or which policies affect it the most? What does "causing appeal for local areas" mean?
We only reject petitions that don’t meet the petition standards.
