Open petition: Require online platforms to provide bulk removal tools for children's data
Created by Ieeke Wright
Closes on
Require major social media and online platforms to give users and organisations simple bulk tools to find, restrict and permanently remove historic personal data involving images and videos of children previously posted on their accounts.
Many schools, charities and organisations have posted images and videos of children on their online accounts for several years. We believe there is a risk that these are being copied, scraped, manipulated into deepfakes or used in attempts to harass, exploit or blackmail children, families or organisations. Yet, we think that many platforms make large-scale review and removal of such material difficult. We think organisations need simple tools to audit and delete historic content so they can reduce risk and meet safeguarding and data-protection responsibilities.
