Rejected petition: Allow Universal Credit claimants have protected savings pots for essential costs
Rejected on
Change Universal Credit capital rules to allow reasonable protected savings pots for essential costs, including tax, bills, emergencies, car costs and disability needs Claimants should be encouraged to budget and avoid debt, rather than be penalised for responsibly saving for essential future expenses
Universal Credit should allow protected savings for tax, bills, emergencies, car and disability needs, including self-employed costs. We call on the Government to stop penalising responsible budgeting and pushing people into debt. Please sign and share to demand fairer UC savings rules. Fair safeguards can prevent abuse while encouraging budgeting, resilience and work, without forcing claimants to exhaust savings or take on debt.
