Rejected petition: Hold a public referendum to legalise assisted dying in principle.
Rejected on
Hold a national referendum to decide if assisted dying should be legalised in principle. If the public votes "Yes", Parliament can then draft the clinical and legal safeguards
Assisted dying bills repeatedly stall because MPs argue over complex safeguards before the principle is even agreed. This ignores the public's view. We believe this ethical choice belongs to the nation, not just politicians. A referendum lets the public decide on the core principle first. If the country votes for change, the Government can then focus entirely on building a robust, safe legal framework that directly executes the democratic will of the people.
