Rejected petition: Create a fair and consistent fare structure between Brighton, Gatwick and London
Rejected on
Require the Department for Transport to review and reform fares on the Brighton Main Line, including Gatwick Express, Southern and Thameslink, so comparable journeys between Brighton, Gatwick Airport and London have a simpler and more proportionate fare structure.
We want the Government to introduce a consistent approach to fares between Brighton, Gatwick Airport and central London.
Where services cover comparable distances and provide similar journey times, fare differences should be transparent. This should address differences created by operator/service branding, London terminal restrictions and the premium charged for Gatwick Express.Passengers should be able to understand why one fare costs more and should be shown the cheapest fare for their journey.
Why was this petition rejected?
It requests action at a local level.
I'm afraid we are not able to accept petitions that deal with local matters - they are usually best raised at a local level with regional boards/authorities, councillors or local MPs.
We only reject petitions that don’t meet the petition standards.
