Rejected petition: Reform Privilege, Mandate Child Harm Reporting, Remove MP Special Immunity
Rejected on
Restrict Parliamentary Privilege so it never covers up harm. Make it a duty to report child risk applying to everyone. Set up an independent body to investigate MPs. Remove all special immunity — one law for all. No MP may suppress evidence or block justice.
Privilege was meant for free speech not covering up harm. The child abuse inquiry found Westminster failed concerns buried silence cost lives like Preston Davey. Unlike Scotland and Wales England has no law forcing anyone to report known child abuse. MPs police themselves no true independence. Special rules create two tiers of justice. Law must apply equally to all.
Magna Carta 1215 To no one will we sell to no one deny or delay right or justice.
Why was this petition rejected?
It’s not clear what the petition is asking the UK Government or Parliament to do.
We find your petition to be unclear - what "MP special immunity" are you referring to? Parliamentary privilege does not connote immunity from prosecution or from the general operation of statute law, and in respect of individual MPs is concerned almost exclusively with freedom of speech during formal proceedings.
Other parts of your petition are also unclear.
We only reject petitions that don’t meet the petition standards.
