Open Fund autism & SEND specific water safety & swimming lessons, include in EHCP

Autistic children face higher drowning risk, yet no requirement for adapted swimming lessons/water safety training. We ask the Government to review this risk, and to fund autism and SEND adapted lessons with trained instructors and to include water safety in Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs).

I know personally how vital water safety is. Autistic children are several times more likely to drown, yet there are no autism adapted swimming lessons in many areas. I’m calling for mandatory SEND friendly water safety training in every area across the UK to prevent avoidable deaths.
