Open petition: Commission an independent review of NICE guidance on Lyme disease treatment

Created by Robert Charlton
Closes on

We ask the Government to urgently set up an independent review of the effectiveness of NICE’s Lyme disease guideline NG95. We believe further treatment should be based on each patient’s clinical findings, response and risks—not a fixed, one-size-fits-all limit.

Many patients report remaining severely unwell after standard Lyme disease treatment but also report being told they are adequately treated, without further investigation or a clear NHS pathway. Many can then spend tens of thousands seeking private care in the UK or overseas. We believe a review is needed to ensure those who require more than two rounds of antibiotics can access them, with individual assessment, specialist oversight and safety monitoring, rather than imposing a fixed, one-size-fits-all limit that may leave patients without care.
