Open petition: Ban the sale of unvalidated food intolerance tests in the UK
Created by Rosie Abbott, Kirsten Jackson
Closes on
Require food intolerance and sensitivity tests sold in the UK to have robust scientific evidence demonstrating their diagnostic validity. Tests that cannot demonstrate they reliably identify the food intolerances or sensitivities they claim to detect should not be sold or marketed for this purpose.
I regularly meet people who have spent hundreds of pounds on what I believe are unvalidated food intolerance tests, leading to unnecessary dietary restriction, food anxiety and risk of nutritional deficiencies. The BDA states that IgG testing is not reliable for diagnosing food intolerance and that hair analysis has no scientific basis. I believe consumers should be protected from tests that claim to identify food intolerances without robust scientific validation.
