Rejected petition: Introduce a remembrance day recognising the Polish war effort during WW2.

Rejected on

I call upon the government to formally create a remembrance day for the war effort of our Polish allies, whose resolve was instrumental to our survival during The Battle of Britain. This would right the wrong of their exclusion from the Victory Parade of 1946 and symbolise our shared history.

We live in an increasingly polarised society where celebrating cross cultural history is more important than ever as an antidote to forgetting our roots. This is a proposal to recognise our allied history and the sacrifices of the Polish Armed Forces and the affectionately nicknamed 'Glamour Boys', otherwise known as Squadron 303, who fought valiantly alongside the British in defending our freedom and theirs. We should honour them this way, while veterans are still alive to see it.

Why was this petition rejected?

It’s about something that the UK Government or Parliament is not directly responsible for.

The current Remembrance Sunday is not something for which the Government has responsibility - its ceremonies are coordinated by the Royal British Legion, the Royal Family, and various military and civic organizations. In the same way it does not have responsibility for establishing other remembrance days.

We only reject petitions that don’t meet the petition standards.
