Open petition: Restore the £100,000 care fee threshold and £86,000 lifetime cap on care costs
Created by Tom Bradley
Closes on
We call on the Government to implement the adult social care charging reforms legislated through the Health and Care Act 2022: raising the upper capital threshold for means-tested support in England from £23,250 to £100,000, and introducing an £86,000 lifetime cap on eligible personal care costs.
In our view under the current system, families who spent decades saving and paying off a home lose everything they built, effectively asset stripped, to pay privately owned care homes, which can charge in the region of £5k to £10k a month. The reforms we are asking for were scrapped in July 2024 by the incoming Labour government. We ask that the current government immediately reverse this, in order to protect working families across England.
