Open petition: Review ADHD and Autism Assessments to Better Recognise Women and Girls

Created by Jessica Hitchen
Closes on

Review ADHD and autism assessments for women & girls. We believe many tools are based on decades-old research, largely focused on male presentations. Assessments should reflect modern life, current neurodiversity research, masking & how ADHD and autism present differently in women and girls.

We call on the Government to review how ADHD and autism are assessed. The evidence base has historically focused heavily on boys & men, with autism research dating back to the 1940s. Although our understanding has developed, some assessment approaches may still overlook people who mask or camouflage their difficulties. Assessments should reflect current research, modern life & different presentations, including how ADHD & autism may be missed in women and girls.
