Open petition: Allow tax-free salary sacrifice for fertility treatment and egg/sperm freezing
Created by Bethany Hood
Closes on
Government to allow individuals to pay for private fertility treatments, including IVF, egg/sperm freezing, and testing via tax-exempt Salary Sacrifice. The Treasury should classify reproductive care as an exempt workplace benefit, removing what can be a massive financial barrier.
Fertility challenges affect 1 in 7 UK couples, alongside same-sex couples and single individuals. Funding via the NHS can be limited, and private IVF or egg/sperm freezing can cost £5,000–£10,000+. We believe that if this was tax-free, more people could use bonuses for private care, significantly relieving NHS pressure. Currently, the only way to divert bonuses pre-tax is into pensions. We call on the government to allow pre-tax salary sacrifice for fertility treatments and testing to remove financial barriers and give everyone a fair chance to build a family.
