Rejected petition: Buying your council house in wales if you’ve lived in the property for 20 years
Rejected on
I would like to start a petition to reinstate the option to buy your council property in wales, if you have lived in the same property for 20+ years and have a record of not missing a rental payment. It was abolished in 2021, but with criteria met I would like the option to be reinstated.
Myself have lived in my council property for 22 years, I have made improvements with council permission and never missed a payment for rent and would like the option to buy the house from my current housing association and council when meeting certain criteria that can be put into place. The option is available still in Scotland and England and have not followed Wales’s decision, I would like wales to reinstate the option to give people like myself a chance to get onto the property ladder.
Why was this petition rejected?
It’s about something that the UK Government or Parliament is not directly responsible for.
This is a matter for the Welsh Government rather than the UK Government. You may wish to contact your local AM and/or look to start a petition on the Senedd website here:

We only reject petitions that don’t meet the petition standards.
