Rejected petition: Seek a global ban on superintelligence until we have safe ways of developing AI
Rejected on
We demand that the government treat the risks of extinction from AI as seriously as other societal risks. New revelations show this is not hypothetical. As host of the first AI Safety Summit, the UK could lead in agreeing a global halt on superintelligence until we know more about this technology.
An increasing number of Nobel laureates and experts at leading AI companies warn that humanity faces a real risk of extinction from a form of AI more capable than humans, called superintelligence.
Given the rate of AI progress, many believe that superintelligence is not far away. Despite the warnings, several companies are pursuing it.
Therefore, we call on the government to avoid a global race to the bottom and instead seek a safe, internationally coordinated path to advanced AI development.
