Open Increase funding to support mothers whilst on the maternity ward

Provide funding to increase the number of appropriately qualified, trained and vetted childcare professionals who can provide additional support to mothers with their newborn babies, including overnight support where appropriate.

Having an extra childcare qualified staff these professionals could provide mothers with practical support, including caring for newborn babies for periods overnight, with the mother's consent and subject to appropriate safeguarding and clinical arrangements.
Mothers may be recovering from labour, surgery, complications or a long and demanding birth, while immediately being expected to care for their newborn baby throughout the day and night.
I believe mothers need care and support too.
