Open petition: Inquiry into Pakistani and Indian state influence on UK politics & democracy
Created by Yousef Elzidani
Closes on
We want the Government to launch an independent inquiry into the extent to which the governments of Pakistan and India may be attempting to influence MPs, peers, political parties and UK public institutions, and whether current rules are strong enough to protect UK sovereignty.
The UK is a sovereign country and its decisions should serve the British public. We believe any influence from the Pakistani or Indian governments through lobbying, funding, paid trips or pressure on community groups should be fully transparent. The inquiry should review the operation of the Register of Members' Interests, All-Party Parliamentary Group rules and the Foreign Influence Registration Scheme, and recommend stronger safeguards. This petition is about the conduct of these governments, not British communities.
