Rejected petition: Reduce the Speed Limit and Improve Road Safety on the A689 in Carlisle
Rejected on
Take urgent action to make the A689 between Houghton and Kingstown roundabout safer. Review and extend the 40mph speed limit, address the dangerous lay-by on the blind brow, and introduce a safer central turning facility at the Harker cut-through. Act now before another life is lost.
We call for urgent road safety action on the A689 between Houghton and the Kingstown/Junction 44 roundabout near Carlisle. There have been 4–5 collisions in recent months, including serious incidents requiring hospital treatment, plus dangerous near misses. We ask for an urgent speed-limit review, extension of the 40mph limit to the roundabout, and a safer central turning facility at the junction/cut-through towards Harker. The busy lay-by on the brow of a blind hill adds further risk.
