Rejected petition: Change to Threshold Signatures Required for Consideration/Debate

Rejected on

Implement a change to the threshold number of signatures required for parliamentary debates of petitions.

Each devolved nation should have a threshold based on their population.

For example, a petition relating to Scotland should have a lower threshold than one relating to England.

The purpose of this petition is to ensure greater democracy for each of the devolved nations and to ensure the voices of the people of Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland are heard.

Why was this petition rejected?

It’s about something that the UK Government or Parliament is not directly responsible for.

This UK petitions system deals with matters that are the responsibility of the UK Government and Parliament - it does not deal with devolved matters that fall under the responsibility of the Scottish or Welsh Governments. Separate petitions systems are available for those who want to petition on matters which relate to Scotland and Wales exclusively.

In that context, this petition is not relevant to the UK petitions system.

We only reject petitions that don’t meet the petition standards.
