Open petition: Amend Human Medicines Regulations 2012 to allow Nursing Associates to use PGDs

Created by Anita Cunningham
Closes on

We call on the Government to amend Part 4 of Schedule 16 of the Human Medicines Regulations 2012 to explicitly include Registered Nursing Associates as a profession permitted to supply and administer medicines under Patient Group Directions (PGDs).

Established post-Francis enquiry (2013), Registered Nursing Associates hold foundation degrees to assess needs and secure consent. Duty-bound by the NMC Code to Prioritise people and Practice effectively, these registered professionals enhance care. Yet, outdated 2012 laws lock them out of PGDs. This forces GPs and RNs to duplicate clinical assessments and deliver routine jabs themselves, creating clinic backlogs and delaying preventative care. We must modernise the law to put patients first.
